Yamagata Hanagasa Festival

花笠

Held over three days from August 5 through 7 every year, this festival is a feature of summer in Yamagata. The Hanagasa (hats adorned with flower) hats used by the dancers represent “Benimochi (cakes of safflower dye) spread on straw matting”.
