Facility introduction

Built to commemorate poet Matsuo Basho’s visit to Yama-dera Temple during his journey along “The Narrow Road to the Deep North”, this museum displays documents handwritten by Basho and materials related to Basho and his students, etc. Enjoy the cherry blossoms in spring, fresh green leaves and chirping of cicadas in summer, colorful leaves in autumn, and the snowy landscape of winter resembling an ink painting. You can also enjoy the green tea and sweets served in a traditional Japanese tea room.
