Enjoy safflower culture
Former Kashiwakura Family Residence
The Former Kashiwakura Family Residence was the home of the family of Kashiwakura Kuzaemon, a wealthy farmer who boasted the largest safflower production volume in the Murayama region, which was a special safflower production zone during the late Edo Period. With grounds measuring approx. 2,300 tsubo (7,603 m2) in area and buildings of approx. 427 tsubo (1,411 m2), this large-scale residence was designated as an Important Cultural Property in September 2019 for its high value as a high-quality farmhouse structure in the southern Tohoku region dating from the Meiji Period (1868–1912).
A high-quality combined home and warehouse with features such as a Buddhist altar room decorated with lacquer and gold leaf, the residence is a must-see for the characteristics of mansions of the Murayama region that it displays.
