Special Contents Yamadera and SafflowerExperience

Yamagata thrived as Japan's leading producer of safflowers during the early Edo Period.
Through the safflower trade with Kyoto and Osaka, Yamagata acquired immense wealth along with the splendid culture of the Kyoto-Osaka area, including safflower clothes and Hina dolls (displayed at the Girls'Festival), which are said to have formed the foundation of Yamagata's economic culture.
The prosperity Yamagata enjoyed through the safflower was closely related to Yamadera, the most scenic spot in all of Yamagata Prefecture.
